ISRAEL
Introduction
Israel is traditionally one of the pillars of Jewish life, and appears regularly not only in our modern day media, but in Jewish liturgy, holidays, literature and much more. This hotly contested land is important not only to the people living there, but to many others worldwide, Jewish and non-Jewish alike. The state of Israel was founded in 1948, when it was made official by United Nations resolution. The approximate 6 million people of Israel make up an extremely diverse population, and include a cross section of religions, ethnicities and races. Hebrew is the national language of Israel, and while the people of Israel speak many language, one of the most popular is English. It is unique politically, as Israel has been an official democracy in the Middle East since its inception.
