Aliyah
- (lit. ascent) the honor of reciting blessings for the Torah (by going up to the bimah); (also- to immigrate to the Land of Israel).

- R. Moshe Alshich, a Sephardic commentator who lived in Israel in the 16th century.
- Ark
- The cabinet that houses the Torah. In the Torah, the Ark contained the tablets of the Ten Commandments. In Hebrew, it is called the 'Aron Kodesh.'
- Aron Kodesh
- The Holy Ark (literally, the Ark of the Sanctuary). In the Torah it refers to the portable 'tabernacle' or Mishkan, the Jews carried throughout the wilderness. It was then applied to the Ark found in the synagogue.
- Ashkenazic
- Related to those Jews descended from the Medieval Jewish communities of Germany and parts of northern France. This includes Eastern- and Central-European Jews. see Sephardim.
