MARSHA GOLDSTEIN-QUILES YAHRTZEIT LECTURE: The Forgotten Mourners: Jewish perspectives on Bereaved Children.
Featuring Rabbi Rena Arshinoff
A bereaved child is a frightening reminder of the randomness of life and, as adults, we don't always know how to help children cope with a loss that will affect them forever. While Halakhah stipulates that children under the age of thirteen are exempt from the process of mourning, psychosocial research tells us that children do indeed grieve. Nichum avelim, the mitzvah of comforting the bereaved, is critical for grieving children. Join Rabbi Rena Arshinoff as she discusses new Jewish responses that recognize the needs of bereaved children as mourners while including them meaningfully within Jewish mourning rituals.
This free public lecture is made possible through the generous support of the Ballon family in loving memory of Jeraldene.
Tuesday, April 27
Doors open at 7:00 pm, lecture begins at 7:30 pm
At the Prosserman JCC (4588 Bathurst St.)
